Spring Decor: {Bringing the Outdoors In}

I am so excited for spring! We are finally getting a dose of warmer temperatures here in Texas!  I am hoping we are done with winter and can move onto warmer days, sunny skies, blooming plants and lots of patio time!

Over the last few weeks, when I was stuck at home due to ice, I had a lot of time to decorate for the warmer season ahead!  I love using greenery and natural elements throughout my home to add interest to the neutral color scheme.  I do not have a green thumb, so I opted for a lot of faux ferns, rustic wood pieces and greenery sprigs.  I love bringing the outdoors in and creating a natural, serene environment.

My home is full of vintage pieces mixed in with newer items.  I love the look and adding pops of green through the plants was a good way to balance the vintage/industrial look in our entryway!

In our dining room, I added some faux fern sprigs to my bottle collection.  I love the pop of color the bright green adds!

In our living room, I used a potted fern (faux) to bring in a touch of color to this space!  The branch adds some nice texture to finish off the look.

I plan on tackling the patio and front porch within the next few weeks! What about you?  Have you decorated for spring yet?

An amazing charity and a fabulous giveaway!

Words cannot describe how excited I am for this post!  Lauren, the founder of Beds 4 Kids, contacted me awhile back and shared her charity's mission with me. I absolutely adore her and what she is doing!  Here is her story and how her charity came to be....(get the tissues out because it is a tear jerker)...

  "Beds4Kids was founded on this thought – “If I die today, where did I leave my mark? How will I be remembered?” A little harsh, right? But it is a thought that we should all try to process. I was only 18 at the time this thought began to haunt me. I couldn’t shake it. So, I did the only thing I knew to do. Pray.

A few weeks later, I went to see a movie with some friends, “The Blindside.” You may have seen, or heard of it. Little did I know walking in to the theater that my life was about to be changed. Forever. The whole movie is very moving, makes you want to help, be a better person, etc, etc. But, there was one particular part that hit me like a ton of bricks! This is just a brief breakdown of the scene, but the well to do Tuohy family in the movie adopts the less fortunate Michael Oher. They prepared a bedroom for him in their home. Full of stuff that most all kids today have. TV’s, game systems, desk, bed, etc. Normal stuff right? When they show him his new room he says to them, “I’ve never had one of these before.” They ask him, “A room?” And Michael says, “No. A bed.”  At that moment I felt the tears begin to fall, and I knew that I was supposed to ensure that many kids as humanly possible had a bed to sleep in.

I won’t bore you with all the details, but let’s just say thanks to God, my family, and mentors, who began Beds4Kids. A nonprofit organization providing beds to kids and teens in need.

This is how my story began, and this is how I plan to leave my mark on our world. Where will YOURS start?"
~Lauren G

I will be the first one to admit that it is easy to take for granted the fact that my daughters both have warm, cozy beds that I get to tuck them into every night.  I absolutely love Lauren's idea and was so excited when she contacted me to collaborate with her on her next project!

In order to take Beds 4 Kids to the next level and bring in money to support her cause, Lauren came up with another amazing idea...THROW.

THROW = "Together Helping Reach Our World."

From their website:
  "THROW is a pillow company that is changing the world. We create more than just pillows. We create dreams. With each pillow sold we are helping provide a bed to a child in need, giving these kids a place to sleep tight and dream big!
The future starts in your dreams, so dream big!"

You can check out their website by clicking HERE!  Make sure and follow them on Instagram to keep up with their latest designs by clicking HERE!

Here area few designs from the always growing collection, custom designs are also available:

How fun are those pillows...and that is just a small sample of them!

Lauren was so sweet and offered to make a custom THROW pillow for each of my girls.  It took me weeks to research the quotes I wanted to use but I came up with the perfect quotes that fit their personalities.  I sent Lauren the quotes and sent her pictures of the color schemes in my girl's room and she did the rest.  I knew the finished product would be amazing but when I received them, I was speechless! These pillows will be something we treasure for years to come!

My 17 year old daughter is an avid reader, the smartest person I know, prefers a laid back lifestyle, will be leaving Texas in a little over a year to head to Colorado for college and you will never find her without headphones in her ears listening to her favorite music....

My 7 year old is a sweet soul who always cares about the needs of others first, wears her heart on her sleeve,  can usually be found drawing someone a pretty picture or card, is always twirling or skipping around the house and has the biggest heart for someone so little....

I cannot even begin to tell you how much I love these pillows and the fact that I got to pick out the quotes that were perfect for my girls makes them so special to all of us!  I cannot wait to order more!

Now the fun part....GIVEAWAY time!!  Lauren wants to giveaway a customized pillow to one of you.  You get to pick the quote and work with her to create a one of a kind pillow just for you!  How amazing is that!  See the Rafflecopter entry box below to enter.  Good luck!!

Friday Finds: {Recessed Lighting Conversion Pendants}

I am so excited about this week's Friday Finds post!  Why? Because this product is genius and I have often wished for something this easy, especially in a home full of recessed lighting.  Don't get me wrong, I love recessed lighting, but there are some areas in our home where a pendant or a chandelier would have been more visually appealing!

Why didn't I think of this??  These pendants just screw into the recessed light like a regular bulb would.  Looks pretty easy to me....

Our Home: {Master Bathroom}

Thanks for stopping by today!  We are in the midst of yet another ice/snow "storm".  I use that term loosely because I know a few days of this weather is nothing compared to what others have been dealing with but I am ready for it to end!  Come on spring!

Today I am sharing a peek into out master bathroom.  When designing this space, I wanted to create a simple and serene room that had a spa like feel.

This huge, blank wall was the perfect place to add a piece of furniture.  I wanted something that not only looked nice but also functioned as additional storage.  I came across this shelf at HomeGoods one day and knew it would be the perfect fit for the space.  I loved the rustic feel of the wood shelves and the traditional lines of the spindles.

I kept the accessories to a minimum to keep the room from feeling cluttered. The galvanized buckets caught my eye and I knew they would be perfect for storing towels.  To add a little ambiance to the space, I used dollar store candles (fancy, I know) grouped together with twine.  I like to light the candles while I am getting ready in the morning or taking a bath at night.  There is just something about the glow that makes me happy.

To store items like bath slats, Q-tips and sponges, I used these vintage inspired apothecary jars.

 They add a feminine touch to the space and balance out the rustic feel.

This little stool was one of those things I bought not really knowing where it would end up.  I put it here to get it out of the way and ended up loving it in this spot.  The concrete top and reclaimed legs add texture and interest to the space.  ...And, it is a great place to put another candle! Can you tell I love candles?

Moving on to the next area...the walk in shower.  When we were building the house, I always pictured a small bench in this area but the reality was it was much too narrow when all was said and done.  We really needed something to hold towels close by and I didn't want a typical towel rack.  One day I was strolling through my favorite antique mall and came across this ladder and immediately knew it was the perfect solution!  The galvanized hanging bucket was purchased in the floral/garden section of a craft store and is perfect to hold wash cloths!

So there you go...a sneak peek into our master bathroom.  Check back soon to see the progress in the other areas of this room!
