Styling Tips: {Decorative Solutions for Towel Storage}

 

No matter how big or small a house is, I think everyone can benefit from extra storage space.  Today I am sharing some unconventional ways to store (and display) towels.

 

The first picture is of our upstairs guest bath.  This bathroom is connected to our guest bedroom and also opens up to the hall for use from the media room and game room.  It is not a huge bathroom and only has the storage space under the sink, which is pretty small.  I came across this wire, hanging basket at HomeGoods and knew it would look great in this room!  The decorative towels add a pretty pattern to the room and it is nice to have them accessible to our guests! 

 

 

The next picture is of a space in our master bathroom.  This rustic wood shelf was the perfect piece for this wall.  I wanted something that created visual interest but also brought in extra storage space.  Glass apothecary jars hold items we use daily but also double as accessories.  Our towels are stored in these galvanized buckets for easy access.  I think this area creates a spa like feel.

Since we have a walk-in shower and the walls are tiled, I did not want a typical towel rack.  I found this old, chippy ladder at an antique store and knew it was the perfect solution for this corner.  I hung a galvanized bucket on the top to hold wash cloths and used the other bars for bath towels. 

In our downstairs bathroom, I used a bath towel to hold other towels.  I simple tied it up with rope and rolled up the other towels to store inside! So instead of one towel, there are four that are easily accessible as well as room for a few hand towels!

And lastly, this is one of my favorite areas.  This is on my bathroom vanity.  This three tiered stand holds hand towels and is also used for jewelry storage.  I love the bowls I found at HomeGoods to hold my bracelets. 

 

 

 

 

Sometimes you have to think outside the box (or in this case cabinet) for fun and functional storage options! I hope these ideas have inspired you to come up with a creative way to store your towels and other items in your bathroom!

Our Home: {Master Bathroom}

 

Thanks for stopping by today!  We are in the midst of yet another ice/snow "storm".  I use that term loosely because I know a few days of this weather is nothing compared to what others have been dealing with but I am ready for it to end!  Come on spring!

 

Today I am sharing a peek into out master bathroom.  When designing this space, I wanted to create a simple and serene room that had a spa like feel.

 

This huge, blank wall was the perfect place to add a piece of furniture.  I wanted something that not only looked nice but also functioned as additional storage.  I came across this shelf at HomeGoods one day and knew it would be the perfect fit for the space.  I loved the rustic feel of the wood shelves and the traditional lines of the spindles.

 

 

 

I kept the accessories to a minimum to keep the room from feeling cluttered. The galvanized buckets caught my eye and I knew they would be perfect for storing towels.  To add a little ambiance to the space, I used dollar store candles (fancy, I know) grouped together with twine.  I like to light the candles while I am getting ready in the morning or taking a bath at night.  There is just something about the glow that makes me happy. 

 

To store items like bath slats, Q-tips and sponges, I used these vintage inspired apothecary jars.

 They add a feminine touch to the space and balance out the rustic feel. 

 

 

This little stool was one of those things I bought not really knowing where it would end up.  I put it here to get it out of the way and ended up loving it in this spot.  The concrete top and reclaimed legs add texture and interest to the space.  ...And, it is a great place to put another candle! Can you tell I love candles?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Moving on to the next area...the walk in shower.  When we were building the house, I always pictured a small bench in this area but the reality was it was much too narrow when all was said and done.  We really needed something to hold towels close by and I didn't want a typical towel rack.  One day I was strolling through my favorite antique mall and came across this ladder and immediately knew it was the perfect solution!  The galvanized hanging bucket was purchased in the floral/garden section of a craft store and is perfect to hold wash cloths!

I have been sharing some photos of our upstairs guest bathroom on Instagram so I thought I would give you the full tour and share some sources to recreate the look in your own home!

This bathroom is connected to a guest bedroom but also serves as the bathroom for the media room and game room.  My plan was to keep things clean, neutral and simple as far as the decor went.

I searched high and low for a linen shower curtain and ended up finding the perfect one at Pottery Barn.  It was more than I had hoped to spend, but I knew it was something that we would own for awhile. I love that we can change up the decor anytime and it will work with any color!  And the ruffle detail...who can say no to that?  Make sure and invest in a steamer if you buy this...trust me!

 

 
This bathroom sat as seen above (no wall décor for a whole year...gasp!) until I was running around Target and came across these paper flower shadow boxes for $29.99!  What a deal!

I love the way the background of the shadow boxes matches the shower curtain. 

I was pretty happy with the room as it stood, but then came across some fun, cast iron deer heads and knew they would be the perfect whimsical touch to add some interest to this room! When I bought the deer heads, they were brown cast iron...(cute but a little drab)

So I gave them a facelift with craft paint I had at home...

So much better...don't you think?

 

 

I am calling this room "done" for now.  I am glad to mark that one off the list and move to the next project!
