Getting Organized for the New Year: {Sponsored by Better Home & Gardens at Walmart}

Welcome to my first post of 2020!  We had a great Christmas, enjoyed some fun activities, as well as down time, and have had a great start to the new year!  I hope all of you did as well.  All the Christmas decor is packed away, my house is getting put back together and I have been cleaning and organizing like crazy!  I am sure most of you are doing the same...it's that time of year!

Today I am partnering with Better Homes & Gardens and sharing some easy organizing ideas!  I found so many great products from their line at Walmart to help me "contain the chaos" in a few areas in my home!  Now I am super motivated to get to the rest of the house, but for now, I wanted to share these spaces with you!

First up, my daughter's bathroom linen closet!

Here is the before, not too terribly bad but could definitely use some work...

After clearing everything out, I went to work.  My secret...baskets make everything appear organized.  6 baskets, 2 bins, a few "fun" items she couldn't live without and we have an oh so clean and organized space!

Baskets are a must for keeping things nice and organized!  I love these metal ones from the Better Homes & Gardens line at Walmart!  The open front makes everything easy to access.  It is amazing what a few baskets can do!

My daughter's favorite shelf is the "nail salon" shelf, as she calls it!  I used an expandable spice rack for her nail polishes and a vanity organizer for other odds and inns.  Let's hope the fact that the spice rack can expand doesn't encourage her to tell me she "needs" more polish!

The new year was a great excuse to grab some fresh new towels and Better Homes & Gardens had a huge selection to chose from! We went with these super fluffy and soft, waffle print towels and washcloths.  The wood crates are another find from the Better Homes & Gardens line.  Perfect for storing just about anything in any space but worked perfectly for towels in this closet!

A few finishing touches and I was done!  Who says a lazy susan is for the kitchen?  It was the perfect solution for all my daughter's perfume!  And of course, glass canisters are a must for small storage needs!

All finished....let's hope it stays this way!

After I completed linen closet, I was motivated to tackle a few others areas of my house!  When I was shopping for goodies for her closet, I cam across some super useful drawer organizers. How genius are these!?

They were so easy to install and instantly transformed this drawer!  I cannot believe how much extra room I created by rolling up the dish towels! The divider keeps everything in place!

I also used them to keep my utensils organized! I will definitely be picking up more of these to use in my other drawers!

The pantry was next on the list!  My pantry was already organized for the most part, but I made a few changes to improve what I already had going on.

I've had the wicker baskets for several years.  I use them to hold items like chips, canned foods, breads, crackers, baking items, boxed foods, etc.  They keep the pantry looking nice and keep things organized by category.  If you are wanting to add storage baskets for your pantry, the Better Homes & Gardens line at Walmart has a huge selection! Check them out here...

I bought more of the open front, wire baskets (the same ones I used in the linen closet) to replace some other baskets I was using that didn't have an open front. The Better Homes & Gardens option are so great for snacks, fruits and veggies and breakfast goodies! The open front makes it easy to grab stuff on the go!

While browsing all the kitchen storage solutions, I came across these awesome storage containers.  I had been using glass jars, but noticed the food wasn't staying as fresh as I had hoped for.  I switched everything to these airtight containers that seal with the snap of the lid and they have been great!

I love how these eliminate all the bulky bags and boxes food comes in and how fresh everything stays.  Having everything organized in the same type of container helps keep the pantry looking pretty! They also help keep tabs on what you already have and what you need to add to the grocery list since you can see the contents.  Find the links to these containers below!

Everything is so nice and organized!

I love having a nice, organized pantry and find that once you take the time to organize it, it is super easy to keep it that way.  The kids catch on and know where everything is!  I happen to have a very large pantry for living in a townhome, but these storage solutions will work in any space...big or small!  Here are my tips for organizing any pantry:

1.  Take everything out!  Go through and throw away any expired food. Take inventory of what you have and make a list of how many baskets, bins, containers you need.

2. Clean the pantry by wiping all shelves, vacuum the floor, mop the floor...add shelf paper if needed or give the pantry a fresh coat of high gloss paint (makes it easy to wipe clean).

3. Measure you shelves so you'll know what size items to purchase! Take a picture of  your pantry so you have it handy for planning while shopping.

4. Go shopping...pick the storage solutions that work for your family.  It is always better to over-buy, you can always return stuff but it is a hassle to have to make several trips to get what you need.

5. Set up the baskets and start filling them!  Eliminate boxes and bags by putting food in the air-tight containers. Take individual serving snacks out of the boxes and put them in baskets so they are easily accessible. Group items by category into baskets.  Arrange everything in a way that works best for your family!

6. Enjoy your hard work!!  Once you get one space organized, I promise you'll be motivated to work on the rest of the house!
