Fall Living Room Refresh, A Little DIY and a Lot of Fun: {Sponsored by Better Homes & Gardens}

Hello, fall! So glad you are here.  As soon as the weather starts to cool off in Texas, I get in the mood for all things fall!  While our normal fall activities won't be happening this year, we will make the most of it and still enjoy the season!  

Some of my favorite stay-at-home fall activities are decorating (shocker, I know), DIY projects and spending time with my family...game nights, movie nights, baking, art and crafts...anything that involves making memories! 

Speaking of DIY projects, I completed a super easy project and had to share!  I spotted this lamp at thrift store for $7 and knew it had so much potential...it just needed some TLC!  When I went to purchase it, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it was half off day!  Total score for $3.50!

I have more plans for this guy and DIY round 2 is happening soon, but for now, I love it!  Not bad for $3.50 and about 5 minute of my time!  I just used a shade I already had and it looks great! 

The "new" lamp" led to making a few other changes in this room...new season, new look!  When fall comes around, I am ready for cozy spaces!  With just a few new additions from the Better Homes & Gardens line from Walmart, this space has a fresh new look and I look forward to spending lots of time in here!

 

Out with the old, in with the new...this shag, trellis rug caught my eye because I love texture!  Texture is a great way to add interest and warmth to a space, especially when you have a neutral color scheme!

New throw pillows make a big impact without spending a ton. The pillows I added were all under $15 each and are great quality.   The Better Homes & Gardens line has so many affordable options. I mixed and matched a few new pillows with some I already had for an eclectic look.  The faux fur pillows are so cozy and soft and I love them paired with the modern farmhouse style striped pillows!

And cozy, throw blankets are a must for movie nights!

Don't be scared to mix patterns!  This throw was so affordable at under $15 and is perfect for the winter months, too!

Since we enjoy playing games, I knew these oversized floor cushions would be a great addition to this room. We know have a comfy spot to play games!

Once I received them, I realized they fit under my coffee table perfectly!  

On the table I kept things simple with a vintage inspired dough bowl, another great find from the Better Homes & Gardens line!  I love pieces like this because they can be switched up easily with seasonal filler!

This wicker tray is also from the Better Homes & Gardens line.  The contrasting texture of the wicker material look great against my metal table!  Of course, I gabbed a new candle for fall...this Cashmere Amber scent is new from Better Homes & Gardens candle collection and it smells amazing!

I love the way everything turned out and look forward to spending lots of time in here! 

To kick off the fall season and to get into the Halloween spirit, I planned a super simple, yet super fun, game night!  All you need is a few fun games and a whole lot of yummy snacks!  Some of our go to games are Jenga, Shut the Box, Bounce Off, Sorry and Uno Attack. For a festive touch, I put together a simple Halloween themed charcuterie board for us to snack on!  My daughter loved it!

We eat pretty healthy most of the time, so a junk food charcuterie board was a fun treat for her....and me!

It was so fun to put together and this tray was perfect for holding all of our yummy treats!  I know it will come in handy for entertaining in the future!  Spoiler alert...we didn't even touch a fourth of that, but that just means we had lots of leftovers to enjoy for awhile!

The new floor cushions were put to use and made game playing much more enjoyable!

We had so much fun kicking of fall with snacks, festive pajamas, games and lots of laughs!  Fun times and great memories!

Cozy Fall Bedroom Refresh: {Sponsored by Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart}

When I started my blog and social media channels about 7 years ago, I had no idea that it would ever become something more than just a fun hobby that friends and family would be interested in!  My love for interior design and decorating started at a very young age...making Barbie houses out of record covers, rearranging furniture and posters in my room almost weekly when I was a teen, assisting my mom with decorating the house for holidays and eventually decorating on a budget when we were a young family just staring out!  Over the years, my taste has definitely changed but I have always had a passion for making my home a cozy, welcoming, pretty space...filled with things that I love that reflect my personal style!  Starting my blog and social media channels has been such an amazing experience.  I have enjoyed connecting with so many others who share my passion!  I have also been very blessed to work with companies who I have loved for years!  I am thrilled to be working with Better Homes & Gardens again because they offer so many amazing products at budget friendly prices!  I am a true believer that you can create a beautiful space without breaking the bank and the Better Homes & Gardens line at Walmart makes that easy!  I am so happy you are all here and support this passion of mine and I hope I inspire you with your own decorating projects. This month's project is all about fall!  We were asked to give one area of our home a little fall refresh. I decided my bedroom could use a little update and love the changes I made!  When I think of fall, I think of cozy, soft, textured fabrics, glowing candle light, soft blankets and just a warm and welcoming feeling.  With that in mind, I created a space that incorporates all of those things!

I am so pleased with the end results...

Since I love a neutral color scheme, I am not one to add bold, fall colors.  I went with blush pink to change the look, but as mentioned earlier, I brought in the fall feel with texture.  My goal was to create a calm, cozy, warm space that I could relax in!  The blush pink quilt and shams really set the tone for the new look.  The material is plush velvet on one side and silky on the other.  A reversible quilt is a great option to get two different looks in one! Layering bedding adds another element of warmth, both for aesthetic and function. I went with the velvet side for fall and cannot wait to curl up with it on cool, fall nights! 

A few new throw pillows finished off the look.  The faux fur and chenille fabrics compliment the other textures present in this space.

The blush pink creates a subtle contrast mixed with the grays and whites I already had in this space.  Bedding and pillows are easy ways to update a bedroom without spending a lot.  I like to add things I can use with the items I already own. It is fun to mix and match when you want a fresh look!

Another new addition to this space is this cute 3 tiered, mirrored side table.  I love sitting here in the mornings to sip coffee or in the evenings to scroll Pinterest or to read a book! I needed a side table for this area and the shape and size of this one is perfect!  I love the storage space the shelves provide and the mirrored detail adds a little touch of glam!

To compliment the blush bedding, I added a blush throw pillow and blanket to this area.  I love the pop of color and feel like the room is cohesive now.

To add a little ambiance, I added these battery operated, LED candles to a terrarium I already owned.  I love that they flicker when on and create the same look as a real candle would.  In the evening, they create such a pretty glow!

Cozy, calm, warm, and relaxing...my space is already for fall!

Boho Chic Study Space: {Sponsored by Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart}

School is back in session and I know for most families that looks a lot different than years past.  We started with virtual for the first 3 weeks, then we will go in person after that...or at least that is the plan for now.  With the future so uncertain, we decided it was a great time to create a quiet and calm study space for my daughter to use.  We found everything we needed from the Better Homes & Gardens line at Walmart!  I love their products because they are so affordable and the quality is so great!

We are still waiting on her new chair to arrive, but she loves the way it turned out!  It was fun creating this space since "boho desert vibes" is a little out of my usual design taste.  Her request was "nothing with the paint chipping off"..."something that fits my aesthetic"...whatever that means! Ha, as you can see by her old desk chair, she and I have a little different styles!  We both can agree, that this area turned out adorable!

Since we wanted to utilize this little nook area, I wanted something that combined a desk, storage and style. I love the leaning desk and shelf we found from the Better Homes & Gardens line.  It offers all of those things, but also keeps the area open and airy.  Also, the great thing about these pieces are they are sold separately so you can customize your design to fit your space!

The mixed colors, sleek lines and open shelving fit the look she was going  for...if you have a tween or teen, you know how picky they can be but she loves this new space!  

We wanted to keep the desk surface clutter free, but we did add a trendy, marble base desk lamp for added light and a cute ceramic (toothbrush) holder to keep pencils and pens handy!

To style the shelves, we chose items that could pull double duty as storage and décor.  The stackable canisters keep markers and crayons corralled and the adorable llama planter holds her decorative, washi tape collection.

On the other side, we used a divided basket to hold more art supplies.  My daughter spends most of her free time creating, coloring, painting and crafting.  This basket keeps all her goodies all nice and organized.

While out shopping, my daughter and I took a stroll down the candle aisle and found the Better Homes & Gardens aromatherapy candle line.  These smell so good and the scents are so calming.  She decided we "needed" to grab one since it matched the décor so well.  Hoping this candle helps calm us from the stress of virtual learning!

To keep all her folders, binders, workbook and spirals accessible, but hidden, we used this cute, fabric storage box.  The fun, metallic pattern fit her "aesthetic", as she says, and it serves the purpose well!

Since she follows a regular school schedule, she has a few minutes between classes, so we grabbed some cozy pillows where she can cozy up for a quick break!

This project was so much fun to complete!  I love doing projects that are different than my typical style.  It is also fun to work with my daughter to create a space she loves!  While we wait to see what the rest of the school year holds, I love that she has a cute, calm and clean space to start her 7th grade year in!

Hey, guys!  I am so excited to share this project with you. It was something that I should've done a long time ago, but it took being at home for 3 months to make it a priority.  I think the outcome shows what a huge impact just a few changes can make in a small space.  With the help of a few new things from the Better Homes & Gardens line at Walmart,  my home office sitting area now doubles as a small home gym area.  I absolutely love the way it turned out.  

There were just a few things I needed to transform this space.  A large mirror, a durable area rug and a storage space that would hide all my workout gear!  The Better Homes & Gardens line at Walmart had everything I needed and their reasonable prices worked well with my budget. 

I went with a beautiful, but durable, outdoor rug for this space.  The great thing about this rug is I can take it outside and hose it down if need be.  The colors and pattern go perfectly with the other furniture and decor I already had in this space.

I also purchased this gorgeous, tufted storage ottoman for style and functionality.  It is a great place to store all my workout gear and can be easily moved out of the way when it is time to work out.  The tufting and nail-head trim add interest to the space and the size was perfect!  I absolutely love the way it looks in this room!

Cozy, textured pillows keep the room looking warm and inviting!  I have a feeling I might spend more time relaxing in this space than working out! 

The last big item I added is leaning mirror. The metal, rivet details tie in well with the nail-head trim on my ottoman and chairs and I love the barnwood color finish.

Another bonus to adding the mirror is that it makes the space look a lot bigger!

I kept the decor simple since it will be moved frequently.  The galvanized tray makes it simple to move when I need to access my weights!  The cute wood and ceramic pieces are actually oil diffusers and keep the room smelling wonderful!  I added a candle holder I already had to complete the look.  Simple accessories can make a huge difference!

Since I think every room needs a natural touch, I brought in a pretty planter and fern.  I love the terrazzo design  on the planter and the colors are perfect in here!

Now the room is complete and functions as both a little workout area and an office sitting area, I feel like I will use it so much more!  Jut proof you do not have to have a huge space to make a big impact...sometimes you just have to get creative! 

Now I have no excuse to skip a workout...

Having such a pretty space to be in will hopefully keep me motivated to get my workouts in!

I am so glad I got the project completed and this room functions as so much more than my office now.  Everything I added goes so well with the desk area in this space, too!

Don't be discouraged if you live in a smaller home or have a small area in your room that is unused...you will be surprised at what you can achieve by adding a few new items that fit your needs!
