Our poor mantle has been bare since I took down the Christmas decorations the day after Christmas! Remember my Christmas mantle...bright, cheery and festive...
After living with it this way for awhile, I needed a change! Being that we live in Texas, our winters are always interesting! We have days that feel like summer only to be slapped with cold weather the next day. I decided to go ahead and add a little "spring" to my mantle with natural elements (or faux "natural" elements in this case).
The driftwood planter (which is actually a candle holder, I just removed the glass insert) and the large piece of driftwood bring in a rustic feel, while the glass jars keep things light and bright. I like the look of layering things in front of the mirror using the stone wall as a "backdrop". The candles add a nice, soft glow to the area, especially at night.
I love that the large, wire covered jars can be changed up easily...such a simple way to create a totally new look while adding in seasonal touches. The faux fern sprigs will be great in the spring as well as the summer. I left the faux branches that were already in the jar for now, but will probably take them out when the weather gets warmer. I am sure I will mix in something else!

It's beautiful! I especially love the containers with the fern sprigs. Where did you find them and where are the fern sprigs from?
ReplyDeleteHi Alison, the jars came from HomeGoods and the fern sprigs were purchased at Michaels! Thanks for the sweet comments!
DeleteI love them too! Do you know about what size they are? Like the bottom diameter

Hello! Did you whitewash the stones on your fireplace? I have a very similar stone fireplace but it is very dark and dreary and I am thinking about whitewashing it to brighten it up.
ReplyDeleteHi there, the stone was naturally this color. You might check Pinterest for tips and tricks for white-washing your stone. I know it can be done but have never attempted it! Good luck!
DeleteWhat type of stone is this? Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I do not recall what it is called. I will see if I can find out for you!
DeleteThank you!!
DeleteDid you build the mantle or buy it? We love it and would like to build something similar!

ReplyDeleteHi! Could you please tell me the width of your fireplace? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration. Did you secure the mirror in any way to the wall or mantle? I have a mirror I'd like to put on my mantle but the wall is large granit rock of varying sizes and I don't know how to prevent the mirror from falling off. But I might just be paranoid.
ReplyDeleteHI there! No, I was afraid to drill into the stone so the mirror is just leaning against it. I did use some puddy on the edges to keep it in place. Hope that helps!
DeleteHello, this fireplace mantle is stunning. I think it is wonderful that you are so willing to share where you purchased the materials. Thank you!
