A Very Whimsical Bedroom Reveal

Happy Thursday!  I am so excited about this post! We have been working on my daughter's bedroom for several months and I am so happy to share what "we" came up with. When we moved into our home 2 years ago, my daughter was 5, so her taste has changed a lot.  She was my toughest client yet, but I wanted her input along the way so that the room would be a reflection of her and the things that she loves!

With the help of At Home, we finally put all the finishing touches on the space and can officially call it completed!  To make the process a little easier on the both of us, I went shopping, brought home items that I thought she would love and she got the final say.  After a few rounds of returning some items and buying others, we finally have a finished room!

We kept a lot of the pieces she had in her old room but updated them with new accessories.  This dresser was purchased for her nursery and it is one of my favorite pieces!  Since I want this room to "grow with her", we tried to stick with items that would last well into the tween and teen years!

To start, she needed a new lamp for her dresser and this one I found at At Home was the perfect fit.  The base is off white, with a hint of gold, so the color was perfect.  The shade I paired with it is just a natural linen type fabric.  I love that At Home has a huge selection of mix and match lighting so that you can customize a lamp to fit your space!  I was so happy she approved because I really love this lamp!

When I shop at large stores, I always try and hit every aisle because you never know what you might find!  I happened to spot these grapevine hearts in the Valentine's section and immediately pictured them hanging on her wall as art! I headed to the frame department and picked out these distressed wood frames to hang around the hearts for one of a kind wall décor!  I love the way it turned out and it was so easy to create!  Since she draws hearts on every piece of art she has, I knew this idea would be a keeper!  Luckily, I was correct!  She loved them!

Next up, I found this cozy, faux fur rug and thought it was the perfect addition to finish off the reading nook area!  I love the texture and warmth it brings to the space.  Rugs are a great way to define a small space within a large space!

She loves to her little reading nook area!

To frame out the window and add privacy, I selected these adorable window panels.  The metallic gold design adds so much interest to the wall and ties in nicely to the gold touches throughout the room.   I added a cute pom-pom garland we already had just to bring in a touch of color!  We both agreed that these were perfect and she loves that they are "shiny"!

My favorite part of the room is my daughter's study nook.  This desk was mine when I was child...it was a birthday gift to me from my grandparents over 30 years ago!  A coat of paint and a recovered seat cushion was all it took to make this desk the perfect fit for my daughter's room!

Above the desk, I created a gallery wall out of items I had been collecting for the past year!  The bird wall canvases from At Home were too cute to pass up!  Being that my daughter loves to color, do art and crafts and write stories, these canvases couldn't be more perfect.  I hung an old, antique frame around them to add some dimension to the wall and to balance out the other items above!  I knew these would be a hit since they had cute, little birds on them!  I have a feeling this space will get used often!

To keep the room whimsical and fun, we wanted to find some bedding that brought in bright colors and pattern.  This is where things got tricky!  She vetoed several of my choices right off the bat...and that was okay, I wanted her to have a space she really loved.  Thankfully, I brought the cute blue quilt and sham set home and she loved it...I was thrilled!  The neat thing about the quilt is that it is reversible and has a variety of colors so it brightened up the room a bit! We styled the bed with the blue side up on the quilt and the opposite side to the front for the shams to give it a unique look.  It complemented the duvet we had already picked out perfectly! I also picked up the crocheted bed skirts from At Home. I used two bed skirts to create a ruffle/layer look and love the way it turned out!  To finish off the bed, we added two cute cream color, cable-knit pillows adorned with gold sequin stripes... my girl loves her sparkles!

Now, if you have girls, then you are probably the proud owner of lots of dolls and tons of stuffed animals!  Am I right?  This vintage inspired rolling cart was a must have for me...cute and functional storage is always a good thing!  We selected this small, off white cart, but At Home carries these in a larger size and also in black!  There are lots of great uses for these cute carts!  Before this picture, this thing was overflowing with dolls and stuffed animals and will return that way soon, I am sure!   She loves to use it as a doll bed, a stroller, etc...and I do not mind because it contains the chaos!

And last but not least...just for fun, we added some Edison bulb string lights to the top of my daughter's bookshelf.  These were actually in the outdoor section. Like I said before, go down every aisle, you never know what you might find!  She had requested "Christmas lights' so I knew these would be a winner!

I am so happy to have this project done!  It is a space that my daughter absolutely loves!
